Radnor Township Trail
Project details
- Project Name: Radnor Township Trail
- Project Client: Radnor Township
- Project Location: Radnor Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania
The Radnor Township Trail project consists of three separate trail connector segments: northern, central, and southern. These segments were developed to create greater connectivity between SEPTA transit stations, local trails, and commercial centers in Radnor Township, and the academic institutions of Villanova University and Radnor High School.
A.D. Marble was responsible for completing the NEPA compliance for the trail, as well as completing the NPDES and 404/105 permitting, and the design of stormwater management and erosion and sedimentation control measures for the trail. This work involved completing wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species clearances, Section 106 coordination, and the infiltration testing for 11 potential BMP locations.
The challenge of developing stormwater control measures was amplified due to the need to minimize the footprint of the proposed trail, conflicts with existing utilities, township limitations on tree removal, and limited soil infiltration rates. These challenges were met by utilizing underground detention, increasing the storage capacity of the infiltration trenches without increasing the project footprint, locating BMPs adjacent to athletic fields instead of within forested areas, and coordinating stormwater offsets with the township and the conservation district.
