OPEN-END FOR WETLAND RESOURCE EVALUATION
STATEWIDE, DELAWARE
A.D.
Marble & Company has held several of DelDOT’s open-end
contracts for Wetland Studies, Statewide. Currently, the company
is working on a three-year agreement assisting DelDOT with wetland
delineation studies, state and Federal permitting, and stream restoration
design. Many of the task orders associated with the open-end contracts
involve the coordination and preparation of USACE Nationwide permits
and DNREC Subaqueous Lands permits. Over 70 permits have been prepared
and obtained for various bridge replacement and corridor improvement
projects throughout New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties. Under
these contracts, A.D. Marble & Company has performed work on
over 50 projects to date.
Other
tasks include wetland delineations and threatened and endangered
species work. Wetland delineations are expedited through use of
GPS units or physical measurements, eliminating the need for conventional
survey methods. The majority of the work orders consist of bridge
replacement projects over freshwater, freshwater-tidal, and tidal
waterbodies. The bridge projects consist of improvements to structures
over large streams such as the Brandywine Creek or over small tax
ditch type waterways. Projects may also include streambank improvements
due to roadway corridor widening or existing eroding steambank conditions.
A.D. Marble & Company’s Level 4 Rosgen-trained scientist
conducts all work associated with streambank restoration design.
A.D. Marble & Company also attends monthly field reviews with
regulatory agencies such as DNREC, USACE, National Park Service,
National Marine Fisheries, State Historic
Preservation Office, and county representatives. Through these field
reviews, our staff has built a close working relationship with the
agencies, allowing for expedited review of many of the permit applications.
Permit preparation also includes assessment of ecological impacts
to the natural environment through review of the design plans: the
impacts are quantified using CADD or physical field measurements.
A.D. Marble & Company then prepares and submits all permits
on behalf of the Department and handles all coordination with the
agencies during permit review process.
Additional tasks include coordination of water quality certifications,
floodplain regulations with local governments, and coastal zone
management regulations. Bog turtle evaluations are also conducted
for projects within the known range of the turtle. All bog turtle
surveys are conducted by A.D. Marble & Company’s USFWS
certified bog turtle surveyor.
